I fondamenti dell'estetica di Novalis PDF Print Email

Luigi Pareyson

Abstract

This essay considers Novalis as an author central to understanding the dynamics of the Romantic movement and German idealistic philosophy. The essay grows with a character not only historical (with a particular sensitivity to Fichte's idealism and its consequences) but even theoretical, both for the definition of the relationship between myth and truth, and for the topic of moralizing nature, that was one of the crucial points of the whole German classical philosophy.

Luigi Pareyson (Piasco 1918 – Milano 1991) since the 1950s was full professor of aesthetics at University of Turin. He was in Italy one of the earliest and greatest interpreters of Existentialism (La filosofia dell’esistenza e Karl Jaspers, 1940; Studi sull’esistenzialismo, 1943) and German Idealism (Fichte, 1950; Schelling, 1975) and developed an original form of Personalism (see the book Esistenza e persona, 1950). His book Estetica. Teoria della formatività (1954) represents one of the greatest moments of opposition in Italy against the philosophy of Benedetto Croce. Finally, he changed his position to a hermeneutical one (Filosofia dell’interpretazione, 1988; Filosofia della libertà, 1989).
