Abstract

In this essay, «archive fever» refers to the impulse to «preserve» and to «deconstruct» the re-membering of the «suspended» body: a dancing technique/poetic that hosts/resists the force of gravity. Looking into the western choreographic memory («patriarchive»; «matriarchive») images emerge – phantasmata – that have the ability of transforming the remembrance of the body «in suspension». The body itself becomes a living archive. With the focus on the «archive of future» created by Isabel Rocamora – an anglo-spanish artist – the writing becomes feminine and depicts alterity. Her anti-gravity choreography displays acts for «remembering dance» (Memory Release) and for «dancing memory» (Horizon of Exile). The technique, together with the immaterial, digital and «spectral» space, in which her works are experienced, frame Rocamora’s performances in a «suspended» archive process. The exile is danced and remembered by Rocamora’s «body-archive», it recalls our contemporary memory, and its embedded obliterating «fever».
