Abstract

This paper provides some overviewing remarks about the role of vision in the production as well in the appreciation of music. The first part concerns the possibility to visualise the work as ideal structural type. The second part briefly investigates the role of vision in the performance of musical works. The third part offers a sketchy account of the role of visualising and seeing in improvisational practices. I conclude with a glance at musical iconology.

 

Alessandro Bertinetto (Viareggio 1971)  is researcher in aesthetics at the University of Udine.
