The issue of ekphrasis has been highly debated in the last few years. Scholars in Philosophy, Classics, and Iconology have written important contributions on ekphrasis, thus giving birth to a multidisciplinary discussion in which different scholarly approaches integrate with each other. Monographs in various languages appeared (e.g. Männlein-Robert 2007, Prioux 2008, Webb 2009), as well as conference Proceedings (e.g. Massa-Pairault ed., L’image antique et son interprétation, Rome 2006), and a monographic issue of Classical Philology (Bartsch-Elsner edd., 2007).

This strong interest in ekphrasis has led the editors of our journal to dedicate a whole number to the issue. The volume is meant to collect highly qualified contributions on ancient ekphrasis by scholars of different countries and disciplines. The essays should be unpublished, and their length of 30.000-40.000 characters, footnotes and spaces included. Any language will be accepted, as all the contributions will be translated into Italian (the editors will come back to the authors before publishing their texts). The volume is scheduled to appear by April 2013.

Guidelines and Deadline

About fifteen contributions will be included in the volume.

The initial submissions for proposals should consist of an abstract, written either in English or Italian, of about 300 words. A final decision about the contributions to be accepted is expected to be taken by January 1st, 2012.

All abstracts will be put on a special section of the journal’s website together with author’s CV (if supplied). Authors should deliver a full version of their contributions by May 1st, 2012.
